OMG that’s priceless. And I do remember thinking how serious and real Go Ask Alice was. Of course, I was 12 then, so I was fairly easy to impress. Still, I hope that I would have known to scoff at that skit, even then.

I especially remember one in high school about environmentalism or something like that where they sang “We Didn’t Start the Landfills” to the tune of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire.” Classic.

Oh how I love this story. I can see it now, right in front of me, and the soundtrack is booming. Speaking of teen education on drugs, did you read Go Ask Alice? Read it again and realise that it’s not a true memoir at all, but a thinly disguised anti-drug rant written with a public service message at heart. It’s almost funny to read now.

Actually, I think those teen acting group public service skits were one of the highlights of my public education. My two favorites were “If you’re killed in a car accident on the way home today, are you going to heaven?” and “How I became deathly allergic to all plastics and chemicals.” Not a lot of screening going on, apparently.

And don’t even get me started on sex ed.
