I didn't come over to your blog to criticize. I came over from Mels Roundup to offer support with the discovering of Simone's hearing loss. I am sorry that this has happened and I wish your daughter only the best. Then I came across this post. I don't claim to know you or your situation, I am not a daily reader of your blog, and I doubt I will be. I am astounded by the thinking behind this post and all that have commented. You obviously didn't have a late term abortion, otherwise, this beautiful child would not be here.

A late term abortion is defined as "Any abortion performed after the fetus would be viable if delivered to a nonspecialized health center"

The procedure:
"The body of the fetus is then drawn out of the uterus feet first, until only the head remains inside the uterus. Then, the physician uses an instrument to puncture the base of the skull, which collapses the fetal head. Typically, the contents of the fetal head are then partially suctioned out, which results in the death of the fetus and reduces the size of the fetal head enough to allow it to pass through the cervix. The dead and otherwise intact fetus is then removed from the woman's body."

From what I have read you don't believe in God, correct me if I am wrong. So I guess you don't believe in a soul? What is it for you that separates people, from the chair you sit on or the pen you write with? What makes life a life, a heartbeat? which all of us in the infertility world, knows can be seen at six weeks. Is it the ability to move, communicate, eat, be happy? Who decides what life should be protected, what life is viable? If your Simone developed no further than she is at this very moment, if she fully depended on you for her life, as she did in the womb, would you end her life? Why do you think someone survives a deadly car crashes, when others perish, when cancer takes the life of someone, but another completely recovers? I am not going to give you the answers to these questions. My answers will likely not be yours. Just think about it, if you don't mind.

I don't assume to know what you will have to say or think about this comment. As I said before, I don't know you, but also understand that you don't know me. I have tried to do this in the most respectful way I can, I am sorry if it does not come across that way. I guess I just wanted to point out a different perspective.

Hi Alexa,
I've been reading (yet rarely commenting) since the beginning of your pregnancy. It's been wonderful to see Simone get so big and happy! Thank you for these posts. Even though I have always been pro-choice, I haven't thought about the issue of medically necessary late term abortions much before. Even though I knew your story, these posts made me realize how important this issue is. Hope your day is better today.
